Kelsey (KJ) & Christa (Skeeter)

Hometown:
Arkansas City, Kansas

Starting Date w/The Missourians:
November 2004

Role with The Missourians:
Lead

Favorite Scripture:
Hebrews 10:25 - “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Why:
I love this scripture because it talks about what I love to do, encourage others. Satan bombards us everyday with all sorts of distractions and temptations. The encouragement of other Christians plays a vital role in our lives.  Ultimately we have no greater encouragement or hope that that of the return of Jesus Christ. Every moment we are getting nearer and nearer to that great moment when we will meet Him in the air!

Favorite Song Currently Singing:
Trying to Get a Glimpse & Carol of The Bells (David Foster’s version) those only scratch the surface.

How did you come to The Missourians:
After college I quit singing and didn’t start again till God laid it on my heart and I said to Him “If you want me to sing I will but you will have to make it happen”. I prayed that on my way to a Wednesday night service and as I walked in that night Donna Mikhail walked up and said “God told me that you were supposed to sing a solo in church”. I was speechless and in awe. I started singing almost immediately. Later, her son Jonathan, who took piano lessons from Bob Durham walked up to me and said he had told Bob about me.  He told Bob that I was the lead singer The Missourians were looking for. I started with The Missourians on Nov. 24th, 2004. The rest as they say is “history”. Today I love doing what we do, spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ and meeting all the folks at our concerts. God is good!

Past Singing History:
I grew up with Gospel music in my life. I can remember waking up on Sunday mornings to the sound of the old stereo/record player playing old time Gospel songs which my mom had put on. Dad used to play the guitar and my sister and I would sit around and listen to him sing and sing along as well. I really started singing in high school when my music teacher Bonnie Schaeffer heard me in the choir and started me out doing solo stuff. Thanks Bonnie! I then sang competitively in high school and carried it into college where music was one of my minors. While in college I worked for legendary country artist Ray Price. I ran his show lights for a year in Branson and could be found singing in the rafters every night. Later Ray told me could see me singing from the stage. Ray and Janie were great to work for and even offered to take me to their ranch in Texas where I could work and eventually work my way into the business. I didn’t take their offer due to a beautiful young lady that had stolen my heart at the time. I later married that girl and she still has my heart today. I have never regretted the decision to stay and marry Deb, God has blessed me beyond measure.

Interesting facts/stories about me:
My favorite things to do are  spend time with my family, go out on dates with my wife, sing with my kids, sing and fish (feel free to take me fishing anytime). My career highlights would include working with Ray Price, singing with Larry Gatlin and the Gatlins, and getting to talk with Brian Free and Ronnie Boothe. Both men took a long time to talk with me. They never talked down as if I were a “lower” artist but rather treated me with great respect and great attention. Brian took the time to talk “tech” and show me some stuff. Ronnie talked about getting started and most of all that it should always be for God’s Glory.
